Professor or Associate Professor of Practice in Urban Education Policy and Strategic Management - Brown University

Brown University’s Department of Education seeks an outstanding practitioner to serve as Professor or Associate Professor of the Practice in urban education policy and strategic management. The initial appointment will be for a one-year term, which will be renewable for subsequent terms of up to 5 years.

The faculty member in this position will teach two core classes in the Urban Education Policy MA program (UEP) and supervise students’ internships: a course on strategic management of school organizations and an internship seminar. The UEP program prepares a diverse group of students to be effective change agents in improving educational opportunity, equity, and system wide support for urban students. The UEP courses are designed to ensure our master’s students develop a range of professional, leadership, and management skills for analyzing policy and working with diverse urban constituencies, build knowledge and understanding about how organizations work and how to be effective change agents, and offer a place for critical reflection about the internship experience. The faculty member will also teach additional undergraduate courses in areas of expertise, such as education policy and law, organizational practice and culture in settings with diverse populations, entrepreneurship in education, or civil and equal rights issues.

Qualifications include substantial experience in education agencies or complex organizations, leadership experience and demonstrated professional impact with local, state, or national educational organizations. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, deep practical knowledge of policy implementation and management, and skills and experience in working with urban and minority populations. Applicants must have at least a master's degree or a terminal advanced degree (such as JD or MBA); a doctorate is preferred.
